Blue Sky Sailing Club (http://www.blueskysailing.org/) is a not-for-profit group of volunteers that provides its members the affordable opportunity to learn/participate in the earth-friendly sport of sailing and comradeship with fellow enthusiasts. We are not a yacht club. Learn to sail or join us just for the fun of it.

This blog is for us. It is here to record our sailing adventures and stories on Lake Nipissing and beyond. Read, comment, and enjoy. If you would like to contribute to the blog with an original post--email the club your story and we'll approve it for publishing.

If you don't like the weather, wait 15 minutes!

That's an old saying about Lake Nipissing which proved itself tonight for the Monday Night Group Sailing. We went at 6:00pm under breezy conditions with 1/2 metre swells. Every 15 minutes it was changing until by 7:00 pm we had F4 winds (14-15 knots) with gusts upto 21 knots (upper limit for the club). Bob and Karen kept the boat tightly trimed and we covered alot of lake in a short period of time. The swells were well over a metre at the end which made pulling in the sails like riding a roller coaster. We were tossed by the waves (SW winds) back into the marina safely. What a ride! Remember the arrangments regarding this Saturday Group Sailing (see earlier Blog article) and check the club's calendar regularly to see if any activities are planned.

Summer in the Park Weekend

Hi Fellow Sailors:

We have been issued passes for parking during Summer in the Park. There will be only one pass per registered boat slip issued. This means our club only gets two passes. Our passes will be available to you on loan for the duration of the boat rental then to be return back to the Commodore. This is to make sure that the passes are avaiable for everyone. We have a group sailing booked for Saturday, July 30 at 13:00. To accomodate everyone, we'll have to car pool. All vehicles are to meet in the city parking lot at 12:45 located at First Ave East and Worthington (entrance off First Ave East then keep left to park). We'll go down to the Tenth Street entrance together at 13:00. Passes outside of the Group Sail time can be obtained by emailing the Commodore at blueskysailingclub@gmail.com. Please allow 24 hours advance notice. Car Pooling, a greener way to get on the water.

Awesome Group Sails

We were a little less optimistic last Saturday afternoon given the winds had dropped out of sight! Our Vice-Commodore offered his boat to motor out and see if anything was happening. After about a hour of relaxing and chatting, we set our sails and went for a ride. Please note. the ladies ruled this sail and it was fun! The crew may had taken a little advantage of the situation and not keeping to their posts.

Monday Group Sail was a great cruise. Tested Andante in 10 - 15 knot winds and she was steady as we expected her to be. We hit the south shore marker and returned before dark. We're looking froward to setting Andante up for overnights for Full/Family club members. We'll appreciate any help from you to achieve this goal.

See Ya Saturday at 9:00 am
