Your Blog, Our Blog, The Sailing Blog

Blue Sky Sailing Club (http://www.blueskysailing.org/) is a not-for-profit group of volunteers that provides its members the affordable opportunity to learn/participate in the earth-friendly sport of sailing and comradeship with fellow enthusiasts. We are not a yacht club. Learn to sail or join us just for the fun of it.

This blog is for us. It is here to record our sailing adventures and stories on Lake Nipissing and beyond. Read, comment, and enjoy. If you would like to contribute to the blog with an original post--email the club your story and we'll approve it for publishing.

Andante to Go

Our Group Sail for June 28 was Andante. The winds were only 2 - 5 knots but this was her first run on the water (referred to as shaking down a boat). Her new main sail fits perfectly. We had five adults on board which was comfortable. We cruise out about 1/3 to the islands and had most of this end of the Lake Nipissing to ourselves. We can't wait for another chance with stronger winds to see if Andante is secretly an Allegro. If anyone wants to organize an inside the boat cleaning bee send an email to blueskysailingclub@gmail.com.

"So Crew, what do you think of Andante?"

High Fives All Around!

Next Group Sail is Saturday, July 2 at 1:00pm.

"An order of Andante all dressed please!"

We all arrived for our Saturday Group Sail but the wind wasn't very promising. We spent some time cleaning Andante up and tried our her new clothes. She a beauty. She'll hold six adults comfortably. During our cleanup the wind picked up and we did what any sailors would do. Drop the rags, hoist the sails and tack. So it was a great morning in many ways.

Our First Club Sail of the Season

Club members met Monday evening at the waterfront for our first club sail of the season.  As usual, we met at the gate nearest the dock at 6 pm.  Skipper Bryn Perry took out our Ocean 21--Epic, with guests Greg Wilkinson and Benjamin Brezynski.  Skipper Bernie took out his boat with guest, Joanne Sullivan, his daughter Kate, and Henry Van Brussel.

The winds were light, the temperature perfect.  The company was great.

I regret that I have no photos.  I'll bring my camera next time for sure.

"An Order of EPIC All Dressed Please"

Here's what she looks with her christening dress on. Cute isn't she. She'll have to go out for a dancing lesson before the party. Thanks Henry for trouble shooting the rigging. We are looking to starting our Group sailing Monday evening June 20. This is open to all registered Full and Social members. Groups sailings are held every Monday Evening and Saturday when the weather permits. We are hoping to get the Coronado into the water this weekend and then there will be another Workshop to get her ready as she is a completely different type of boat.

Send a email to bmailto:blueskysailingclub@gmail.com if you are coming out this Monday night. We'll meet at 6:00pm at the north gate into the Marina. Prepare to tack!

Remember that all group sailings require a flat fee of $10/participant (cash at the event). These fees goes towards paying our operating expenses as these boats are purchased, maintained and operated by your club.

Rigging a boat Worksop #2 RECAP

What a wonderful day it was to be at the marina. We got the mast up on "Epic" our Ocean 21 boat. Many thanks goes out to Big John, Little John, Jill, Rob, Scott (guest), Bernie and Ben. It was a vaulable exercise as we had no example to rig this boat (first time for the club) so it was truely a team effort and they came through!!! Great job and, errr Jill, those thingees on the jib sheet are called "Hanks". I had forgotten too.

Cheers,
